BULLARD — Brook Hill basketball player Indeya Williams was recently named the Greater Texas Ford Dealers Female Athlete of the Month for private schools for the month of December.
On Thursday inside the new Soules Center for the Arts on the campus of the Brook Hill School, Loy DeMoss of EAG Ford Jacksonville presented Williams with her trophy during an assembly.
“It was very exciting,” Williams said. “I’ve put in a lot of work to get here, so to be recognized by Ford is a big deal.”
Williams, a 5-11 junior, earned the honor by averaging 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in the Lady Saints Christmas Classic. In the championship game, Williams had 25 points, 17 rebounds, four blocks and two steals to earn tournament MVP honors.
“It’s just kind of validation for all of the hard work she does,” Brook Hill head girls basketball coach Jereme Hubbard said. “She’s a kid who is not only one of the most skilled kids we have but also one of the hardest workers. She’s always asking if she can get in the gym. She stays late and comes in early. It’s validation for her. She’s a very humble kid. I know that she doesn’t necessarily like all of this attention, but she definitely deserves it.”
Williams is in her first year with the Guard after coming over from Whitehouse. She is averaging 13.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.0 block per game for the season and 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game in district play to help lead Brook Hill to a 29-6 record overall, a 5-0 district mark and a No. 2 state ranking in TAPPS 5A.
“It’s been great,” Williams said. “I’ve been playing with people I’ve been playing with since I was little, so to be able to come here and play with them, and we’re winning and doing good, it’s awesome.”
“You know you’re getting a quality kid and a quality athlete, but then when she gets on the floor, she has another level,” Hubbard said. “She’s really opened up doors for other players for us. She’s a difference maker in a lot of ways.”
Williams and the Guard will begin the TAPPS 5A District 2 Tournament on Feb. 7.
