Christus Trinity Mother Frances Health System is adding emergency care to its HealthPark campus in Canton.

The 7,650-square-foot addition will have six exam rooms, one trauma room and an imaging center, hospital officials announced. It will be staffed with physicians and nurses who specialize in emergency care.

HealthPark, which is located on Interstate 20, already houses a health and fitness center and offices of specialists in cardiac, orthopedics, sleep and oncology.

“Being able to access quality health care, especially emergency care, is of huge importance to our patients. With the new facility, we are answering the needs of our patients in Canton and the surrounding area,” Jason Proctor, president and chief executive officer of Christus Trinity Mother Frances Health System, said in a news release.

The plans were announced during a Canton City Council meeting last week.

“We have been a part of this community for 30 years, providing interventional health care services to Canton and Van Zandt county. We have added to this facility over time, increasing our footprint here in 2006, and today we are excited to announce the next step — emergency care available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” Proctor said.

It is important that residents in the Canton area have access to care as quickly as possible, he said.

“The bottom line is that in a medical emergency, when minutes or even seconds matter most, we can examine and treat patients as efficiently and effectively as possible,” he said.

Chris Glenney, chief executive officer of Christus Health Northeast Texas, said in a prepared statement that the expansion will add jobs and reinforces the system’s commitment to the area’s growth.

“With this new facility, we will have 100 associates on-site, adding emergency medicine physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and staff to a skilled team already in place,” he said.

Christus expects to begin construction within about two months, the announcement said. The project is expected to take about one year to complete. HealthPark will remain open during the building of the addition.
