TJC Apache Ladies defeat Grayson County again

The No. 24 Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies defeated Grayson College for the second time this season.

Felmas Koranga had a game-high 17 points as TJC won over the Lady Vikings 75-63 on Wednesday afternoon in a pre-Thanksgiving basketball matchup at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

The win moves the Apache Ladies to 6-1 on the season, while Grayson falls to 1-6.

TJC defeated Grayson 81-70 on Nov. 13 in Denison.

Trelynn Tyler (15 points), Kierra Brimzy (14) and Diamond Atchinson (10) were also in double figures for the Apache Ladies. 



Others scoring for TJC were Kennedy Burks (8), Quatera Lambrick (5), Te’Aire Hambrick (4) and Burgundi Griffin (2).

TJC led 37-36 at halftime but outscored the Lady Vikings 25-15 in the third period to pull away.

Jordan Lewis led Grayson with 12 points, followed by Zaria Dorsey (11), Jalie Dawson (9), Nahemiah Johnson (7), India Green (7), Manna Mensah (7), Mya Garrett (6) and Journey Greene (4).

The Apache Ladies connected on 15 of 20 free throw attempts, including 6 of 7 from Brimzy. Grayson was 6 of 8 from the charity stripe.

TJC will compete in the Collin College Classic on Friday and Saturday in Plano. The Apache Ladies meet host Collin at 1 p.m. Friday and will try to avenge their only loss of the season (76-71 on Nov. 10 in Tyler). On Saturday, TJC is scheduled to meet Seminole State (Oklahoma) at 11 a.m.

Grayson is scheduled to play in the Budke/Serna Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.

Grayson will play South Plains at 11 a.m. Friday, followed by Panola vs. Garden City (Kansas), 1 p.m.; TVCC vs. Independence (Kansas), 3 p.m.; and Hill vs. New Mexico JC (5 p.m.).

Saturday’s schedule includes: Garden City vs. South Plains, 11 a.m.; New Mexico JC vs. Panola, 1 p.m.; Grayson vs. Independence, 3 p.m.; and TVCC vs. Hill, 5 p.m.
