The University of Texas Exes Tyler-Smith County Chapter will host its annual Texas Exes Scholarship Dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hollytree Country Club in Tyler.

This event benefits the local Texas Exes scholarship fund for students attending The University of Texas at Austin.

Former Texas Longhorn football wide receiver and kick returner Quantwan “Quan” Cosby (2005–08) will be the featured speaker.

As a freshman Longhorn, Quan played in the 2005 National Championship game at the Rose Bowl against USC. With 16 seconds left in the 2009 Fiesta Bowl, Cosby had a game-winning catch from quarterback Colt McCoy against Ohio State. He finished his Longhorn career with all-time UT records of 212 receptions (second), 2,598 all-purpose yards (third) and 19 touchdowns (fourth).

Prior to playing football for the Longhorns, Cosby played four years of professional baseball for the Anaheim Angels. After graduation from UT, Cosby played in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars. Quan has since worked for the Longhorn Radio Network as a sideline reporter for UT football games and as a broadcaster for UT baseball games.

At the scholarship dinner, the Texas Exes chapter also will honor its 2018 Outstanding Texas Exes — Kay Latta, CPA (1983) and Paul Latta, DDS, FAGD (1982). The Lattas are avid Longhorn fans and lifetime members of Texas Exes. Kay Latta is a shareholder and senior manager at Henry & Peters accounting firm, and Paul Latta practices dentistry at Latta Family Dentistry.

Due to past generous donations, the Texas Exes Tyler-Smith County Chapter will be awarding $8,100 in scholarships from its endowed scholarship fund to students from Smith County who are attending UT.

The local Texas Exes chapter strives to reward students of exceptional character and quality, as well as to provide financial support to assist local students in attending The University of Texas at Austin.

The event will honor the following 2018 Texas Exes Tyler-Smith County Chapter Scholarship Recipients: Ronak Desai, graduate of Lindale High School, Ralph Spence Texas Exes Scholarship; Megan McCoy, graduate of Bullard High School, Mary John Spence Texas Exes Scholarship; and Tyse Burckhartt, graduate of Whitehouse High School, local Texas Exes Scholarship.

The Texas Exes chapter appreciates this past year’s service by its outgoing chapter president, Nicanor “Nick” Pesina Jr. (JD 2012), an attorney at the law firm Roberts & Roberts, PC. Tom Perkins (MBA 2008), a financial advisor at Edward Jones, will serve as the incoming chapter president of the Texas Exes Tyler-Smith County Chapter.

Cocktails and the silent auction begins at 6 p.m., with the dinner and presentation commencing at 7 p.m. Tickets to the event are $75. Limited seating is available. Additional sponsorship opportunities and contributions benefit the local scholarship fund.
