Tyler man arrested after admitting to sexually assaulting a teenager

A Tyler man was arrested by Texas law enforcement officials after he admitted to sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
Child Protective Services contacted the Smith County Sheriff’s Office on May 16 regarding the possible sexual assault of a child.

The sheriff’s office learned a 14-year-old girl said she had been sexually assaulted by 28-year-old Jared Lynn Monk.
Investigators interviewed Monk on Tuesday. Authorities said he admitted to sexually assaulting the girl and knowing she was only 14 at the time.
Authorities said Monk made threats to harm himself and family members prior to being arrested.
The sheriff’s office obtained a warrant for Monk’s arrest and he was taken into custody Wednesday at a Tyler apartment complex, according to the sheriff’s office.
Monk was taken to the Smith County Jail early Wednesday morning, charged with sexual assault of a child.
He was being held on bonds totaling $1 million.
