New Life Worship Center in Tyler hopes to soon host conferences, sports teams, concerts, events, classes and home-school co-ops in its new 38,000-square-foot, $4.8 million family life facility.
The church will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony with food and tours of the building from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday
The first floor of the center houses basketball courts which also can be used as a volleyball court and an indoor soccer arena. The space includes a stage at one end so it can be used as a conference center.
The shop on the first floor can serve as a space for woodworking, building sets and preparing skits.
The second floor houses classrooms and a youth center. Bond said fitness equipment will eventually be placed in the building.
Pastor Rudy Bond said the church at 18535 Highway 69 South hasn’t decided on what sorts of non-church events will be allowed to the use the building. He said the church has received requests from faith-based organizations and homeschool co-ops.
“Building this has been unbelievable,” Bond said. “We’ve moved 10,000 yards of dirt and now it’s almost done. It’s been crazy for two years.”
Bond hopes the center will be useful to the community.
“It’s just a common-sense practical building,” Bond said. “It’s something that can be used so many different ways.”
