A booster station designed to improve water pressure in an area of Tyler near Troup Highway will be operational in May.
The major neighborhoods that will see improvements in water pressure are behind Green Acres Baptist Church, off of Troup Highway, and off of Baxter Avenue near Tyler Junior College, among others.

The city is spending $3.3 million on the upgrade to the Troup Highway Water Booster Station. The money was set aside as part of the Tyler Water Utilities Capital Improvement Program.
Jimmie Johnson, Tyler’s director of water utilities, said the city is upgrading water pressure at the booster station to a threshold that is twice the state-required minimum for water pressure.
Texas requires a water pressure standard of 35 pounds per square inch, or PSI, but the new booster station will offer water pressures between 70 and 80 pounds per square inch, Johnson said.
Johnson said the city can’t guarantee a specific water pressure at a specific address, but that many of the houses in the neighborhoods will see improved water pressure, including houses located on higher elevations.
“There’s going to be some fluctuations in pressure as we bring this pump station online, and because of the turbulence in the water with the pressure it’s going to bring it some air bubbles, which is going to produce like a milky look to the water,” Johnson said.
Customers who see their water like this should simply let their faucets run, Johnson said. Customers who need additional information can visit www.tylerpublicworks.com/Booster-Station for answers to frequently asked questions.
