Heritage Land Bank has announced a possible security breach.
The bank has a Tyler location at 4608 Kinsey Drive, Suite 100, and offers agribusiness loans as well as personal ones.
The bank issued a news release stating it may have been exposed to a security breach involving the bank’s lockbox payment processing service, provided by a third-party vendor, Frost Bank, through its contractual agreement with Farm Credit Bank of Texas.
The FBI and U.S. Secret Service are leading the investigation into the unauthorized access of the software program that serves approximately 470 commercial customers.
Frost Bank’s lockbox services allow customers to send payments to a central post office box where the bank receives the payments and credits them directly to a client’s account.
“Once we were made aware of this potential data breach, our immediate concern was the protection of our customers and the need to inform them of this event as soon as possible, even before we have much in the way of details,” Bill Tandy, Heritage Land Bank CEO, said in the news release.
“It is our hope that none of our account holders were impacted. … Once we have a clearer picture of the facts, we will contact any affected customers directly.”
Frost Bank has stopped the unauthorized access and secured its software, and Heritage Land Bank is currently taking the necessary steps to transfer its lockbox payment services to another financial institution, the release states.
Anyone who has mailed a check to P.O. Box 1569, San Antonio, 78296, is encouraged to monitor their account for any unauthorized or suspect activity.
If fraudulence is suspected, Frost Bank has asked that those who are affected contact the bank’s 24-hour customer service line at 800-513-7678 to report any unauthorized transaction, the release states.
Customers’ banks may also be able to assist with account protection.
