Carthage’s Ingram voted TSWA Offensive Player of the Year

- LES HASSELL/LONGVIEW NEWS-JOURNAL PHOTOCARTHAGE HIGH SCHOOL running back Keaontay Ingram is one of the top players in the state that has yet to sign his national letter. Ingram is expected to sign with Texas on Wednesday.
BRYAN — Carthage senior running back Keaontay Ingram has earned Offensive Player of the Year honors on the 67th Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A all-state football team, the organization announced on Thursday.
Ingram, who signed with the University of Texas on Wednesday, rushed for 2,325 yards and 37 touchdowns to lead unbeaten Carthage to the Division I state title.
Texarkana Pleasant Grove senior linebacker Caleb Porchia was the Defensive player of the Year. He had a school-record 196 tackles to help Pleasant Grove win the Division II state title.
Josh Gibson, who led Pleasant Grove to the D-II state title, was voted Coach of the Year.
Joining Ingram on the first-team offense were teammates — center Nate Brittenham and quarterback Gunner Capps. Pleasant Grove tackle Nick Gavriel and fullback TJ Cole joined the Bulldogs.
Longview Spring Hill punter Efren Barcenas was a first-teamer as well as Pleasant Grove linebacker Caleb Porchia, Carthage linebacker Mekhi Colbert and kick return Jaterious Evans.
Area players on the second team include offensive tackle Jesse Wayne Pierce of Carthage, wide receiver Dee Bowens of Carthage, tight end Xavier Benson of Pleasant Grove, defensive lineman Austin Toler of Pleasant Grove, defensive backs Tyrek Blanton of Henderson and Cameron Wells of Pleasant Grove, and punter Tyler James of Wills Point.
Piney Woods players are the third include: offensive tackles Kris Dike of Van and Kylar Cooks of Liberty-Eylau, guard Austin Adams of Kilgore, fullback Kenneth Woods of Brownsboro, place-kicker Dillon Williams of Pleasant Grove, defensive linemen De’Braylon Garrett of Henderson and Landon Jackson of Pleasant Grove and punter Travis Coston of North Lamar.
East Texas honorable mention players were: Pittsburg tackle Slade Whitson, Longview Spring Hill center Tanner Cornell, Gilmer center Grayson Traylor, Pleasant Grove wide receiver Carson Cox and Liberty-Eylau WR Mahleik Darty.
HM quarterbacks are Aaron “Poppy” Brown of Gilmer, Trae Hall of Henderson, Darrian McDuff of Rusk, Garrett Moseley of Van and Decorian Phillips of Liberty-Eylau.
