LUFKIN — Jacksonville College’s duo from Bujumbura, Burundi, combined for 52 points as the Lady Jaguars picked up an 83-77 win over Angelina Saturday afternoon at Shands Gymnasium.

Ines Nezerwa had 31 points and 10 rebounds, and Florence Sifa had 21 points, six assists and six steals.

With the win — and a loss by Trinity Valley on Saturday — Jacksonville (20-4, 14-3) took sole possession of first place in Region XIV. However, with a recent announcement that the program has been placed on probation by the NJCAA, the team will be unable to participate in the Region XIV Tournament or NJCAA National Tournament.

Angelina (18-8, 10-6) was led by 18 points each from Natasha Mack and Mia Williams. Williams made six 3-pointers in the contest.

MEN

JACKSONVILLE 69, ANGELINA 63

Tylin Lockett, A.J. Sparks and Jabari Narcis all had 12 points as Jacksonville took a 69-63 win over Angelina.

Christian Barrett added 11 points and 23 rebounds for the Jaguars (18-8, 8-7).

There were five lead changes and 11 ties, and neither team had a lead of more than seven points.

Kevin Norman led Angelina (13-13, 5-10) with 16 points, and Gilbert Thomas had 14 rebounds.
