- PHILADELPHIA EAGLES' LANE JOHNSON (right), who played at Groveton High School, Kilgore College and the University of Oklahoma, celebrates after winning Super Bowl 52 against the New England Patriots on Sunday in Minneapolis.
While both Super Bowl teams were from the Northeast, there was a bit of a Texas flavor in Super Bowl LII.
Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles played his high school ball at the Austin Westlake quarterback factory.

Also, Tyler’s own Greg Ward Jr. is a member of the Eagles practice squad and although he didn’t take part in the game, he gets a Super Bowl ring after the Eagles’ 41-33 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday in Minneapolis. Ward played quarterback at John Tyler High School and later at the University of Houston.
Other Texans on the Eagles’ roster are Boise State RB Jay Ajayi (Frisco Liberty High School), West Texas A&M LB Bryan Braman, Oklahoma OL Lane Johnson (Groveton, Kilgore College), Texas WR Marcus Johnson (League City), LSU CB Jalen Mills (DeSoto), TCU OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai (Haltom City), Texas LB Jordan Hicks and Arkansas OT Jason Peters (Queen City).
Texans on the Patriots’ roster include: Texas Tech WR Danny Amendola (The Woodlands) (Amendola was on the 2008 Dallas Cowboys practice squad, Dallas kept Sam Hurd, who is now behind bars, instead of Amendola), Texas DL Malcom Brown (Brenham), Texas Tech OL LaAdrian Waddle (College Station), Texas A&M TE Martellus Bennett (Alief Taylor), TCU OL Marcus Cannon (Quanah) and RB Rex Burkhead (Plano Senior High School).
SUPER ROSE CITY

FLY LIKE AN EAGLE
With the Eagles winning the Super Bowl, now all four NFC East teams have won the big prize.
What makes Philly’s win so impressive is the fact the Eagles lost three key players during the season, including MVP candidate/quarterback Carson Wentz, middle linebacker Hicks and all-pro offensive lineman Peters.
The Eagles, unlike a certain team that could be called the Frisco Cowboys, Arlington Cowboys or Dallas Cowboys, kept marching forward. Dandy Don Meredith used to say Irving Cowboys when the squad played at Texas Stadium.
The Cowboys, it seems, if someone goes down, that’s it. It could be a QB, DL or backup CB. It is the culmination of bad drafts that has not allowed the team to collect depth.
Dallas wants to hit the home run and hope it pays off, instead of drafting good solid players.
Today’s youth has to look at old YouTube highlights to find out the Cowboys were Super Bowl champions and were contenders from 1966 to 1996. That was a fun three decades.
I know everyone says Jerry Jones wants to win more than anyone.
Well, Mr. Jones, prove it. You can make the money, now get a Super Bowl team.
Once, the Cowboys had the lead in most Super Bowl wins with five (tied with 49ers), but now have seen the Steelers surpass them with six, along with the Patriots tying them with five. Green Bay and the New York Giants are right behind with four.
Twenty-two years without a Super Bowl will do that.
