Martin Heines elected to third term as mayor, Broderick McGee wins District 2 in Tyler City Council races

Broderick McGee has defeated Beverly Beavers-Brooks in the race for Tyler City Council District 2 and Mayor Martin Heines was overwhelmingly re-elected to his third and final term.
At 8:45 p.m., with 100 percent of precincts reporting, McGee had 268 votes to 230 for Beavers-Brooks, according to the Smith County Elections Office.
District 2 includes several neighborhoods in the western part of Tyler. The winner of the election will succeed Darryl Bowdre, who is not eligible for re-election because of term limits.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting votes, Heines led Joel Rando with 2,268 votes to 287 votes.
