Pleasant Retreat UMC to have ‘One Service Sunday’

Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church, 417 County Road 1143 in Tyler, will have a “One Service Sunday” at 11 a.m. Sunday.

There will be blessing of the backpacks, children, teachers and administrators for the coming year.

There also will be a Sunday school and farewell reception for Wilda and Forest Rathbun at 10 a.m. At 4 p.m., Prayer at the Pole will be held at Chandler Elementary for the new school year.

ANNUAL REVIVAL

Fairview Baptist Church will have its annual revival services starting at 2 p.m. Sunday with speaker the Rev. J.L. Preston of Greater Hopewell Baptist Church. Weeknight services will be at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday with the Rev. Rodney Curry of College Hill Baptist Church as the evangelist. The public is invited to attend.



TRINITY LUTHERAN GROUNDBREAKING

Trinity Lutheran Church will break ground on a $1.9 million capital improvement project at 10 a.m. Aug. 25 at 2001 Hunter St. in Tyler. Architects are Tyler’s Butler Architectural Group. The construc-

tion will begin in September and is slated for completion in mid-2019. Groundbreaking activities will include a video of the church’s 85-year history of service (1933-2018), a review of the ministry purposes and plans for the upcoming building project, consecration of the project and turning of dirt by representatives from various age groups and worship representatives, followed by games for all ages, food and fun.

CHURCH BLOOD DRIVE

CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S JOB CORPS CHILD CARE

The Christian Women’s Job Corps has received a grant from the United Way of Smith County to help their female constituents with the cost of child care while enrolled in CWJC’s program.

The child care subsidization will allow job corps students to complete a 12-week training program without the worry of child care expense in order to gain necessary computer and employment soft skills.

Applications are being taken at 310 W. Ferguson St., for the 12-week fall employment training program, which begins on Sept. 4. Student orientations are planned for 9 a.m. Aug. 28 and 29. Students should request assistance to help pay for child care when enrolling in the program.

Christian Women’s Job Corps provides free computer and skills training, and serves daily lunch without charge. There is a $34 nonrefundable registration fee to reserve a student’s spot.

FALL CONCERT

Central Baptist Church, 116 W. Mount Vernon St. in Marshall, will have a fall concert at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 featuring the Inspirationals Quartet.

Tickets cost $10 and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Children 6 and under get in free.
