Early voting in the Nov. 6 election starts Monday and runs for two weeks.
Smith County voters who want to cast their ballots can do so at five different locations in Tyler, Lindale and Whitehouse.
They can cast ballots at any of the locations in Smith County. There is no requirement for Smith County residents to vote at polling places closest to their homes.
Statewide, there are contested races for U.S. Senate, governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, comptroller of public accounts, land commissioner, agriculture commissioner, railroad commissioner and six judge positions.
In Smith County, voters have contested races for U.S. Representative, Texas House District 5, Texas House District 6, Smith County Judge, Smith County Commissioner Precinct 2 and Justice of the Peace Precinct 3.
Voters should bring a photo ID to the polls with them. Voters who have a reasonable explanation for not having a photo ID can bring another form of identification, such as a paycheck or utility bill containing an address, and fill out a declaration of reasonable impediment explaining why they don’t have a photo ID.
Alternatively, Texas law allows people who do not have another photo ID to get an Election Identification Certificate for free from the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Election Identification Certificate would work for voting purposes only.
