The Village Bakery in Tyler celebrated its 70th anniversary Saturday with a day of activities that included a children’s Halloween costume contest, bobbing for apples and trick-or-treat stations.

The bakery opened in October of 1948 and has been in operation at the Bergfeld Center ever since. Bettie Smith has owned the business since 1981.

Attendees of the celebration were treated to live music and food samples from a variety of local chefs.

A drawing at the event allowed three people a chance to win specialty cakes and raised money for Pets Fur People.
