Van wins Tyler ISD softball tournament

Van won the 2025 Peltier Chevrolet Rose City Softball Classic played at Tyler Legacy High School and Tyler High School.
The Lady Vandals picked up two wins Saturday at Tyler Legacy, defeating Paris North Lamar 5-1 in the semifinals and then defeating Malakoff 5-4 in the championship.
Jailey Potter allowed one run on five hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk in six innings in the win over North Lamar. Potter also had a hit at the plate.
Emerson Swoape had a triple and double, and CharLee Carr and Lanna Tschirhart both had a triple.
Potter pitched a scoreless seventh inning in the championship against Malakoff to pick up the win after Van rallied with four runs in the top of the sixth and took the lead with a run in the top of the seventh.
Potter had a double against Malakoff.
Potter was named the tournament MVP.
Malakoff defeated Alba-Golden 9-0 in the semifinals.
Tyler Legacy fell to Mount Pleasant (3-1) and Kerens (7-3) on Saturday.
Against Mount Pleasant, Krisney Austin had the lone hit for the Lady Raiders. Aubrie Kirk struck out four batters in the circle.
Against Kerens, ReNaa Hicks had two hits and Ruby Byers had a triple.
North Lamar took third place, and Mount Pleasant won consolation.
Joining Potter on the All-Tournament Team were Legacy’s Kirk and Hicks; Van’s Carr and Tatum Horton; Tyler’s Aaliyah Alexander and Asja Denmark; Mount Pleasant’s Kaylin Brannon; Mildred’s Parker Kittrell; Brownsboro’s Summer Nguyen; Kerens’ Rylee Spivey; North Lamar’s Addison Cooper and Brooklyn Enriquez; Troup’s Makayla Spencer; Malakoff’s Alabama Anding; Killeen’s Korianna Johnson; Mabank’s Savannah Phillips; Jacksonville’s Mahala Sotello and Alba-Golden’s Averi Stevenson.
