ARP — Just days after playing a slugfest that featured 16 runs and three home runs, Friday’s rendition of the 7-Mile Rivalry also had three home runs.

Freshman Heather Longino and senior Taylor Gillispie, who both homered in Tuesday’s 10-6 loss to Arp, both went deep on Friday and accounted for seven RBIs in an 8-3 win victory for Troup in District 16-3A softball.

“It was super big,” Troup head softball coach Murphy Williams said. “The fact that we did take a loss on Monday, we worked really hard all week to prepare.”

“It was awesome,” Longino said. “I was glad we got to come out here and whoop their butts.”

With Troup trailing 1-0 in the top of the third inning, the bases were loaded with two outs for Longino.

“I called a timeout just to calm her down because we are a very young team,” Williams said. “I just told her to sit on the change, hit the hard.”

“I was just trying to hit a base hit and do what’s best for my team,” Longino said.

Longino delivered with a grand slam to give Troup a 4-1 lead.

“I felt it right off the bat,” Longino said.

Troup added to its lead in the fifth inning with a three-run shot from Gillispie to push the score to 7-1.

Arp cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run homer from Neci Potts.

Troup added to its lead in the top of the seventh when Shiloh Sluder scored from third with heads-up baserunning on a flyout to center that she didn’t originally tag up on.
