High School Baseball Rdp: Robert E. Lee’s win streak snapped

MESQUITE – Mesquite scored runs in the first two innings and held off the Robert E. Lee Red Raiders 5-2 on Tuesday in a District 11-6A baseball game.

Zach Fernandez and Rhett Parker led the Red Raiders with two hits a piece, while Chandler Cooper and Nathan Dial added singles. Parker and Cooper had RBIs for Lee.

Jonta Brown led the Skeeters with two hits with Richard Schwab contributing a double. Julio Lopez added a single. RBIs were from Brown, Tommy Moreno and Schwab.

Brown got the win on the mound, hurling 5 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. Moreno pitched the final 1 1/3 inning with a strikeout.

Bradley Rippy took the loss for the Red Raiders in 1 1/3 innings of work, but allowed only one earned run while striking out two.



Tullis Greer (2 2/3 innings, 2 strikeouts) and David Randall (2 innings, 3 strikeouts) fnished out the game.

Both the Red Raiders and the Skeeters are both 4-3 in league play.

The two teams will meet in Tyler on Friday at Mike Carter Field. The contest has a 7 p.m. scheduled start.

 

Winnsboro 13, North Hopkins 1

WINNSBORO – Ruston Bult, Logan Cortez and Gunner Morris combined on a no-hitter to lead Winnsboro to a 13-1 five-inning non-district victory over North Hopkins on Tuesday.

The win moves the Red Raiders to 17-2 on the season and they will meet Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill at 6 p.m. Friday.

Bult and Cortez pitched two innings each with Bult striking out three and Cortez punching out six. Morris hurled the final inning and recorded two strikeouts.

Cortez was 3 for 3 with two doubles and four RBIs. Brantley Allen had two hits with Garrett Gearner, Morris and Dylan Mitchell adding doubles. Bult and Dustin Ivey had singles.

Other RBIs were from Bult, Mitchell (2), Ty McMillan and Ivey.

 

Brook Hill 16, Bishop Gorman 4

BULLARD – Campbell Fletcher had three hits and Brooks Parham had four RBIs as the Bullard Brook Hill Guard downed the Bishop Gorman Crusaders 16-4 on Tuesday in a TAPPS District 3 Division II baseball game.

Fletcher was 3 for 3 with two RBIs, while Tyler Overbeek was 2 for 2 with three RBIs.

Parham, Logan Fitzgerald, Reid Hill and Seth Moss had doubles for the Guard. Hill and Logan Langford each had two hits with Josh Jenkins and Miguel Vega adding one apiece.

Others with RBIs for Brook Hill were Hill, Moss, Vega (2) and Fitzgerald (2).

Nate Grundy led the Crusaders with a home run and single with three RBIs. Michael Lara added two hits with Nick Reuter and Matthew Fauve adding one each. Lara also had an RBI.

Langford got the win on the mound, allowing three runs but none earned with striking out four in four innings of work. Dakota Gillespie pitched the final inning allowing one run with a strikeout.

The Crusaders (6-8) play host to King’s Academy at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Brook Hill plays at Bishop Gorman at 6 p.m. Friday.

 

Sabine 10, Cumberland 0

LIBERTY CITY — Jaedon Pratt tossed a five-inning one-hitter to lead Sabine to a 10-0 District 15-3A baseball win over the Cumberland Knights on Tuesday. Pratt struck out eight. 

Cheyenne Compton had two hits for the Cardinals with Sam Longhofer adding a double and three RBIs. Will Shawn, Tucker Gabriel, Tristan Green, Daniel Wood and Pratt all had singles. Shawn, Gabriel, Green, Anthony Gresham and Pratt had RBIs.

Jackson Woodard had the hit for the Knights.

 

Gladewater 7, Chapel Hill 5

NEW CHAPEL HILL — Braiden Vickers, Jace Armstrong and Levi Ellis each had two hits to lift Gladewater to a 7-5 District 15-4A baseball win over Chapel Hill at Jerry Mumphrey Field on Tuesday.

Parker Hintz led Chapel Hill with three hits and three RBIs. Two of his hits were doubles.

Colten Beaudet added two hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs. Kaleb Golden and Cade Williams had hits for CH.

Daniel Robertson, Keylon Mack, Derek Wallace and Danny Badger had a hit and an RBI for the Bears. Vickers had an RBI too.

Other hits for GW were from Robert Hodges, Collin Keller and Rashaud Johnson.

 

Gilmer 9, Bullard 1

GILMER — Nathan Mize tossed a three-hitter while striking out eight in leading the Gilmer Buckeyes to a 9-1 District 15-4A win over the Bullard Panthers on Tuesday.

Mize allowed an unearned run. He also had an RBI-double. Ryen Lawhorn had two doubles, a single and two RBIs. Trent Pierce had two hits with Bryce Burns adding a double and two RBIs.

Jacob Johnson had two doubles for Bullard with Cleet  Bowman adding an RBI-double.

District 13-4A
