Rafael Cruz, father of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, to speak at several faith-based events this weekend

GOD & COUNTRY

Pastors Rafael Cruz and Stephen Broden are scheduled to speak at Grassroots America – We the People’s God & Country Event on Saturday, April 29. Cruz is the father of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, and Broden is the founder and senior pastor of Fair Park Bible Fellowship Church in Dallas. The program is scheduled to run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, 10818 University Blvd. (Spur 248), in Tyler. A meet and greet is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. The topic is “What can pastors and people of faith do to protect their First Amendment religious liberty rights?” There is no cost to attend.



 

CONCERT AT CHURCH

Fine Arts at First Presbyterian Church will present The University of Texas at Tyler Spring Finale Concert, “I Carry Your Heart With Me,” at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 29, in the church sanctuary. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for students and children. The church is home to the joint concerts of the UT Tyler Patriot Singers and Concert Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Cameron Rose. SPECIAL CELEBRATION

Bishop Joseph E. Strickland will celebrate the annual mass for families with special needs at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, in the Chapel of Sts. Peter and Paul on the Bishop Gorman Schools campus, 1405 East Southeast Loop 323 in Tyler. A reception will follow in the chancery. All families with children or adults with special needs are welcome. A modified liturgy will be celebrated to accommodate these needs. RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

George Stephenson is presenting two classes, each one hour in length, on “Understanding and Protecting Religious Freedom” at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Latter-day Saints Chapel on U.S. Highway 69 in Bullard, just north of Brookshire’s, and at 3 p.m. at the Latter-day Saints Chapel, 2401 N. Broadway Ave., just north of Martin Luther Kind Blvd. The worldwide leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City have asked local congregations to teach about the responsibility for preserving and protecting the First Amendment, especially religious freedom. The public is welcome to attend this discussion on what can be done localy to preserve and protect religion freedom.

 

STYLE SHOW

The Greater Love Temple C.O.G.I.C., 1015 W. 33rd St., in Tyler will have a style show program at 3 p.m. Sunday. The program theme is “Women with a Mission, What Type of Hat are you Wearing?” Guests should wear their Easter attire. Prizes will be awarded for first through third places.

 

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY
