The Troup Tigers are on top of the golf world.

Troup captured the UIL Class 3A State Golf Tournament on Tuesday in Austin. The Tigers won by 15 strokes over runner-up Brock.

In Class 2A, Grapeland won the team title.

 

CLASS 3A

On the Grey Rock Golf Course, the Tigers carded a two-day total of 621. Brock was second at 636 with Pottsboro taking third at 659. New Diana placed fourth at 663. Pollok Central was 12th at 739.

The Tigers, coached by Greg Hamilton, had rounds of 315 and 306.

Jake Smelser paced the Tigers by placing in a tie for fifth with a 149, two strokes out of second. Smelser had rounds of 75 and 74, tying with Early’s Jake Angerstein (78-71) and Georgetown’s Ethan Miller (75-74).

Other members of the state championship Troup team are Jamey Scruggs (80-75-155), Peyton Hugghins (81-77-158), Brayden Maris (79-84-163) and Corbin Whitsell (96-80-176).

The Tigers won silver last year.

Comanche’s Kasey Middleton claimed medalist honors with a 145 (72-73). Merkel’s Colton Hilburn (77-70) won a playoff with Brock’s Garrett Leek (72-75) for second as both carded 147s. Bruceville-Eddy’s Preston McGinty was fourth at 148 (77-71).

East Texas medalists were Nacogdoches Central Heights’ Jack Summers (75-80-155) and White Oak’s Justin Benson (80-78-158).

New Diana’s team members include: Landon Oney (77-75-152) James Harden (88-80-168), Jackson Sampson (87-84-171), William Leslie (84-89-173) and Ethan Thorton (87-97-184).

Pollok Central team members include: Riley Dewitz (95-87-182), Morgan Hubbard (97-88-185), Gage Gilmore (96-90-186), Caydin Parker (95-97-192) and Mason Kelly (90-DQ).

 

CLASS 2A

Grapeland was the other East Texas squad to finish on top, capturing the Class 2A title at Roy Kizer Golf Course in Austin.

The Sandies’ Rick Frauenberger also captured medalist honors with a 139 (67-72), winning by some six strokes over runner-up Saylem Maddox of Memphis (76-69-145). Placing third was Yorktown’s Wyatt Koricanek (76-70-146).

Grapeland’s Brayden Cheatham was also in the top 10, placing fifth with a 148 (79-69). Douglass’ Trevor Roquemore (76-73-149) tied with Hamlin’s Nicholas Hall for sixth at 149 (76-73).

Other members of the championship Grapeland team were Riley Chipman (79-77-156), Case Boyd (79-78-157) and Josh Ackley (127-128-255).

Other Douglass team members were Avery Arnold (85-90-175), Jared Holland (90-91-181), Connor Gallier (89-96-185) and Logan Lee (96-106-202).

 

CLASS 5A

At Wolfdancer Golf Club in Bastrop, Highland Park captured first in 5A with a 591 (294-297). The Scots were followed by Cedar Park (304-300-604) and Lubbock Cooper (307-304-611). San Antonio Alamo Heights (304-308-612) and Boerne Champion (310-303-313) were just out the medal chase.

The Lindale Eagles placed 10th with a score of 658 (324-334).

Highland Park’s Scott Roden (70-71-141) and San Antonio Alamo Heights’ Mac Meissner (73-68-141) tied for medalist honors. Prosper’s Graham Hutchinson took the bronze with a 144 (71-73).

Evan White led Lindale with a 153 (74-79). Other members of the Eagles’ team were Ryan Esparza (77-90-167), Ethan Puckett (86-81-167), Dylan Sims (87-84-171) and Montana Meador (126-118-244).

Other members of the Highland Park gold medal team were Cash Carter, Turner Bosch, Blake Pettle and Preston Petty.

 

CLASS 4A

Argyle captured the Class 4A crown on Apple Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay in Marble Falls.

Argyle won with a 633 (312-321). Fredericksburg was second at 646. Monahans (330-319-649) won a playoff for third place over Robinson (327-322-649).

Texarkana Pleasant Grove (330-324-654) placed fifth, with Canton taking eighth (343-329-672).

Brownwood’s Jaryn Pruitt won medalist honors with a 141 (72-69). Taking the silver was Madisonville’s Sam Bennett (73-73-146), while the bronze went to Will Traylor of Midlothian Heritage (77-74-151).

Pleasant Grove’s Braxton Watkins tied for ninth with a 158 (82-76). Carthage’s Miller Harris tied for 10th with a 159 (86-73).

Bullard’s Jaxson Bellar was just out of the top 10 by placing in a tie for 12th by firing a 161 (76-85). Teammate Hayes Esposito was 23rd with a 165 (83-82).

Canton’s Patrick Malouf placed 20th. He carded a 163 (87-76).

Other members of the Canton team include Logan Willeford (85-84-169), Tristan Nelson (91-81-172), Matthew Allen (83-89-172) and Clayton Stern (88-88-176).

Members of the Argyle team are Cole Wilson, Logan Diomede, Will Gilster, Parker Love and Luke Griggs.

 

CLASS 1A

Happy won the Class 1A tournament at Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.

Happy carded a 638 (323-315), followed by Clyde Eula (329-346-675) and Garden City (371-353-724). Sulphur Bluff placed sixth with a 781 (389-392).

Happy teammates Sterling White and Mitchell Downing topped the field. White (71-73-144) was first with Downing second at 147 (71-76).

White Deer’s John-Payton Freeman was third at 150 (74-76).

Sulphur Bluff’s Kaleb Brown was sixth at 158 (75-83). Kennard’s Garrett Hoy carded a 168 (80-88). Yantis’ Kaiden Bush shot a 205 (99-105).

Other Sulphur Bluff golfers were Trayton South (98-98-196), Turner South (102-101-203), Aaron Swanson (114-110-224) and Brennon Seymore (123-123-246).

Others on the Happy team were Karson Bryan, Colton McCarley and Trever Phillips.

 

CLASS 6A

Austin Westlake claimed the 6A title at Georgetown’s Legacy Hills Golf Club.

The Chaparrals had a two-day total of 572 (288-284). They were followed by Plano West (291-288-579) and Southlake Carroll (294-297-591). Just out of medal contention were Humble Kingwood (294-298-592), Flower Mound Marcus (292-301-593) and Lake Travis (300-295-595).

Members of the Westlake gold medal team are Reid Davenport, Mathew Denton, Michael Rome, Reese Ramsey and Thomas Bockholt.

Parker Coody of Plano West won medalist honors with a 139 (71-68). Houston Memorial’s William Moll (68-72-140) took second with a playoff win over Denton (72-68-140).
