Union Hill falls in state semifinals

ROUND ROCK – Hunter Pope tossed a five-inning no-hitter as Abbott ended Union Hill’s dream season with a 12-0 win in the Class 1A state baseball semifinals on Friday at Dell Diamond.
The Panthers (28-3-1) advance to Saturday’s championship game and will meet Fayetteville (14-12), an 8-3 winner over Gail Borden County.
The title game is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Dell Diamond.
The Bulldogs end their season at 9-14.
Pope struck out eight and walked three.
It was UH’s second state tournament appearance with the first coming in 2006.
Members of the Union Hill team include: Adam Kuza, Colby Wade, Luke Batts,Kasen Yandle, Cody Yandle, Colt Mallory, Kealin Dunn, Gabe Nelson, Trever Tidball, Carl Fletcher, Bryce Venters, Colton Wade, Seth Ingle,Riley Griffith and Nick Rickman.
Managers include: Cristian Aguillon, Randy Griffith and Tre Venters.
Ben Smith is the head coach. Assistants are Troy Batts, Nate Carter and Shane Mallory.
