Grassroots America to hold public job interviews for Smith County Republican candidates

On Monday, Jan. 22, Grassroots America will hold public job interviews for local candidates appearing on the Republican Primary ballot in Smith County on March 5. Early voting begins Feb. 20 and ends March 1.

Job interviews will be conducted for the elected positions of:



Smith County Republican Party Chairman, including candidates: Incumbent David Stein, and challenger, Republican Precinct Chair Kevin McCall

Smith County Sheriff, including candidates: Larry R. Smith, Incumbent, and challenger, retired game warden Chris V. Green

Smith County Commissioner, Precinct 3 candidates: Terry Phillips, Incumbent, and challengers J. Scott Herod, local rancher and business-owner and Rusty Smith, former City of Winona mayor and alderman. The Office of County Commissioner Precinct 3 covers the largest geographical area in Smith County, and includes portions of Hideaway, Lindale, Overton, Tyler and all of Winona.

The job interviews will be held at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, located at 5701 S. Broadway Ave. in Tyler. There is a $12 fee for a buffet dinner.

Candidate job interviews begin at 6 p.m. and are planned to end by 8:50 p.m.

There is no cost to attend, and registration and membership are not required. The group encourages dining to help support local business and jobs.
