Ben Wheeler man sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking

A 28-year-old Ben Wheeler man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearms violations. 

Corey Lance Parish pleaded guilty on May 16 in the Eastern District of Texas to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.

Parish was pulled over for a traffic stop Dec. 13 in Canton. Police discovered a pistol, over 77 grams of marijuana and 329 grams of methamphetamine, according to information presented in court.

This case was prosecuted as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative.  Project Safe Neighborhoods is aimed at reducing gun and gang violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, ammunition and body armor, and improving the safety of residents in the Eastern District of Texas. Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office.
