Fox News speaker, grant for legal immigrants seeking citizenship among upcoming political happenings

The League of Women Voters of Tyler/ Smith County is pleased to announce its first Citizenship Application Grant. Application for the grant is open to any legal immigrant seeking U.S. citizenship. Funding for the grant this year is provided to the League under a grant from the League of Women Voters of Texas, Texas Education Fund.

The $500 citizenship application grant is intended to offset part of the citizenship application fee paid to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service when a person applies for citizenship. Grant monies will be paid to the USCIS on behalf of the citizenship grant winner.

Applications for the grant are available at the Literacy Council of Tyler, located on the Tyler Junior College West Campus. Applications must be received on or before November 1, 2017. The winner will be announced in December 2017. For more information about the league, visit http://lwvtyler.org/.

Grassroots America-We The People welcomes back Nick Adams, a Fox News contributor, in its regular meeting slated for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Adams will talk about his latest book, “Green Card Warrior: My Quest for Legal Immigration in an Illegals’ System.”

The meeting will take place at Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, 10818 University Blvd. in Tyler. There’s no cost to attend. Bring a lunch or purchase a Subway sandwich on site.

RE-ELECTION

State Rep. Dan Flynn, R-Van, has announced he is running for re-election in 2018.

“I have represented the conservative values of my district consistently and to the best of my ability, and it would be my honor to serve HD-2 for another term,” said Flynn in a release. “Our district is looking for solutions, not soundbites; results, not rhetoric. I have gotten results.”

As chair of the House Pensions Committee, Flynn helped to pass legislation to stabilize teacher retirement health care, the Employee Retirement System, and pension systems for both Dallas and Houston.
