Early voting is underway.

People who live in Smith County can vote for or against a $39.5 million bond, which would be used for reconstructing and widening county roads.

Voters in Arp have the option to allow alcohol sales and increase the sales tax by half a cent.

Mayor Terry Lowery said it would benefit the city by helping pay for new water lines to replace those installed in 1966.

“We are not looking at it because we want to bring it in,” he said. “We are looking at it because it’s almost a necessity. We lose too much revenue going out of the city for people purchasing alcohol other places.”
