Oprah is also a fan of a Tyler holiday staple – the Greenberg turkey.

The media mogul on Thursday released her annual list of favorite things, and Greenberg Smoked Turkeys were among the 102 items included for 2017.

“This turkey from Greenberg Smoked Turkey Inc. has been prepared in an old-fashioned brick smokehouse using only hickory wood, so all you have to do is slice and enjoy. No wonder it’s one of my all-time Favorite Things,” she said on Oprah.com.

Sam Greenberg said it’s flattering to be named to the list and thanked the company’s customers and employees.

“We have the best customers in the world,” he said. “I have great employees working with me. My parents created a tradition that reaches far and wide, and I’m just glad to carry it on.”

This is the second time the company has made the list. The first was in 2003. Another Tyler-based business, Janie’s Cakes, was named to the list in 2016.

“I think it’s kind of cool – it’s a neat deal that Tyler is a hub for (Oprah’s) favorite things,” Greenberg said. “Janie’s Cakes last year and us this year. Tyler has a lot of good things going on with food.”

The company sells about 200,000 turkeys each holiday season, and Greenberg said he’s unsure how the news will affect sales.

“We might sell a few hundred or a few thousand, I don’t know,” he said. “But, it is never bad publicity to have something like this happen.”
