A Shreveport man this week was sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison for drug trafficking in the Eastern District of Texas, Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin Jr. said in a news release.

Darren Tremaine Jackson, 41, was found guilty in March 2024 of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge J. Campbell Barker sentenced him to 260 months in federal prison.

According to court records, Jackson and co-defendant Gary Wayne Sepulvado were pulled over for a traffic violation in Smith County on Feb. 13, 2020. Officers smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and searched it, finding 1 kilogram of methamphetamine. Sepulvado pleaded guilty to related charges on Nov. 15, 2023, and is awaiting sentencing.

The Drug Enforcement Administration, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Smith County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ryan Locker and Dustin Farahnak prosecuted it.
