Nick Moss attended his first Ducks Unlimited banquet in 2009 at Whitehouse.

“I knew then I wanted to get involved with this group,” he says. “I wanted

to give something back to the resource, and I wanted to be sure that my

sons could grow up enjoying the same hunting experiences that I did.”

Last week, Texas Ducks Unlimited awarded Moss its highest honor, the

“Texas Star.” Presented to one individual annually, the “Texas Star”

recipient is selected by the seven professional DU regional directors,

with input from the Texas DU state officers.

Moss joined the Whitehouse DU committee in 2010 and quickly became an

integral part of that group. Over the next couple of years, he began

helping at other area DU events, and in 2013, he became the DU district

chairman for East Texas, helping to supervise activities of five area

committees.

Since then, Moss has expanded his role in Texas DU, serving as state

trustee/national delegate in 2014, 2015 and 2016, as state sponsor

chairman and, this year, as state convention chairman.

“Nick’s rise in DU has been nothing short of meteoric,” said Texas DU

chairman Rusty Legg. “His level of enthusiasm and commitment, his

willingness to tackle any task is phenomenal.”

Moss lives in Whitehouse, with his wife Marla. He has three children:

Jordan, Avery and Korbin.

With more than a million supporters, Ducks Unlimited is the world’s

largest wetland conservation organization. Its mission is to conserve,

restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s

waterfowl.

“Right now, wetland conservation is critical. Each year, the United States

loses about 800,000 acres of native wetlands,” Moss said. “That’s more

than seven football fields per hour.”
