6th Annual Chick-Fil-A Heart of a Champion Bowl on Saturday

Some will be donning the pads one last time, while others will be warming for college, but on Saturday all of the football players are all-stars.
The sixth annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Chick-fil-A Heart of a Champion Bowl is scheduled for Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

Kickoff on Earl Campbell Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The teams are divided into Blue and Red squads.
Robert Bardin, Northeast Texas-Tyler FCA area director, said more than 200 players were nominated by their coaches. He said the coaches not only consider their achievements on the field, but also their off the field actives in helping their communities and their academics. All players must be seniors. There are also all-star cheerleading squads.
Bardin said the FCA uses Mark 12:30 for inspiration for the games “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and all your strength.”
Bardin said it is about giving your all.
Clint Harper of Marshall is the head coach of the Blue team. His staff includes Brandon Joslin (Marshall), Michael Ludlow (Marshall), Greg Cranfill (Wills Point), Jeff Cleveland (Commerce), Brett Ratliff (New Diana), Matt Turner (Gilmer) and Paul Gould (Alto). Tim Russell of Harmony is the consultant.

The Red squad will be led by head Coby Gipson of Bishop Gorman. His staff includes Mike Lee (Spring Hill), Bobby Brasher (Brook Hill), Charles Swann (Como-Pickton), John Frazier (West Rusk), Ryan Gentry (Omaha Paul Pewitt), Mike Maddox (Grace Community) and Chris Cochran (Lindale). Mike Meador of Lindale is the consultant.

The FCA in Northeast Texas includes some 65-plus school districts in 17 counties, Bardin said, along with 10 to 12 colleges and universities. He added some 2,000 coaches and athletes weekly engage in FCA on all campuses.
