SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) – No one was injured when three tractor-trailers collided on Interstate 20 at Barber Road around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
A preliminary crash report states that three tractor-trailers were in one lane in a row when the tractor-trailer at the back failed to control its speed, rear-ending the middle tractor-trailer, which then rear-ended the front tractor-trailer.
The front tractor-trailer swerved to the shoulder, fell onto its side and caught fire. It was carrying large bales of paper which added to the intensity of the fire.
No one was injured, but the tractor-trailer is a total loss.
One lane of westbound I-20 is open and traffic is moving slowly. However, DPS advises that the lanes will be shut down again when crews are ready to remove the wreckage. Cleanup is expected to take a few hours, and DPS is asking motorists to avoid the area if possible.
