Field and Stream magazines newest edition has an article about 11 women who are changing the face of hunting and fishing.

Eva Shockey, daughter of outfitter and TV host Jim Shockey, is one of the 11, and already a fight has broken out on the magazine’s web page whether she is qualified or not, or just receiving fame because of her looks and father’s name.

It is pretty amazing that people just can’t say congratulations and move on. It is not like she wins a prize, or that the distinction will really add anything to the bottom line.

There seems to be a lot of division in life these days, and hunting and fishing is not immune to the internal grumblings. As a minority segment of the population it would seem hunters and fishermen are doing a disservice by disagreeing about one technique compared to another. As long as it is legal and ethical, be supportive. If you want to argue one caliber compared to another, mechanical bow vs. long bow or fly fishing vs. traditional tackle, keep it inhouse.
