South Texas Shooters earn Varsity rimfire national title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With a final time of 182.56 seconds, the South Texas Shooters claimed the Varsity Division title in Rimfire Pistol competition at the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) National Team Championships in Ohio.

Led by Ethan Inocando of Mission with 37.13, the Texas team edged out the Renton Steel Dragons of Washington by 1.97 seconds. Backing up Inocando in the title run were teammates David Estes of Pharr with 46.41, Michael Machner of Harlingen with 49.22 and Jonathan Phipps of Harlingen with 49.80.
Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, 320-plus athletes representing 17 states put over 55,000 rounds down range during eight days of competition in the sport of Speed Shooting. The format of the match has shooters facing four stages, each with five steel plates. Racing against an electronic timer, each stage is designed to test a shooter’s speed and accuracy.
The Renton Steel Dragons finished second in the match with 184.53. Christian Sailer of Bellevue led the team with 33.22, followed by Bradley Miner of Clyde Hill with 44.30, Alexander White of Renton with 48.74 and Connor Paczosa of Renton with 58.27.
Third place went to Team Gotta, also of Washington State, with a time of 195.85. Jake Overstreet of Lynden led with 41.24, followed by Bryceton Bird of Nooksack with 42.72, Phillip Greguski of Ferndale with 53.63 and Zachary Swartwood of Everson with 58.26.
The Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sport of Speed Shooting to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills.
Nationally, there are over 1,300 students and more than 400 coaches from 31 states participating in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program. The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program.
