Pharmacy students at UT Tyler will officially receive their white coats Saturday.
The white coat and the White Coat Ceremony are important milestones in pharmacy. The ceremony is traditionally placed at a specific point within pharmacy curriculum to mark the official entry of students into the profession. The white coat itself represents professionalism and acceptance of responsibility.

The pharmacy student is given the short white coat, this indicates to other healthcare professionals that they are still training within their field. The long white coat, worn by the faculty and pharmacists, symbolizes to other healthcare professionals they have completed their professional degree.
The ceremony on Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. and will last roughly an hour and a half. After the ceremony, students, their family and friends, faculty and preceptors will be invited for a reception in the White Lobby.
