Colonial Dames open essay contest for Tyler area middle school students

The Richard Borden Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century is sponsoring the 2016-2017 Colonial Heritage Essay Contest for Tyler area middle school students.



All students in grades six, seven and eight enrolled in public, private and parochial schools and those who are home schooled are eligible to participate.

The length of the essay is to be no more than 400 words. All of the essay must he the student’s original work.

Each essay must have a title page listing the following:

Title of essay – “Why Did Colonial Settlers Come to the Colonies and What Hardships Did They Face?”

Contestant’s full name and address. (Street, RR, PO Box, City; State, and Zip Code)

Contestant’s telephone number (with area code) and e-mail address, if available

Name of contestant’s school and grade level

Number of words in essay  

The essay must have a bibliography listing all references utilized. Internet resources, if used, should be cited in similar format to that used for printed resources. Add the electronic address used to access the document as supplementary information.

 The first place winner will receive a cash prize and certificate.

All entries must be received by the Richard Borden Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century by  Dec. 5. Mail entries to: Colonial Heritage Essay Contest, Anna Marie Lee, Chairman, P.O. Box 7316,  Tyler, Texas 75711.    

Colonial Heritage Essays will not be returned unless they are accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope. Judging of the Colonial Heritage Essays will be conducted outside of the Richard Borden Chapter Colonial Dames XVII Century.
