HEATH – Robert E. Lee built a double-digit first-half lead and held off a comeback late to secure a 45-41 win over Rockwall-Heath in its District 11-6A girls basketball opener on Tuesday at Heath High School gym.
The Lady Raiders (8-5, 1-0) used 12 points from freshman Aaliyah Morgan and 10 from junior JaKayla Bowie to lead the way on offense. Freshman Alyssia Thorne chipped in eight points for REL.
“This was a huge first way to start district. That was a really good basketball team we played,” REL coach Ross Barber said. “They have two really good players, who average 16 points per game and we held them combined to 12.
“We attacked them inside and got 20 points from our freshmen post players.”
