No explosive devices were found at a Tyler Christian school after emergency teams responded to a bomb threat call on Monday morning, but officials say the incident is under investigation.
Around 9:45 a.m. Monday, Tyler Police Department officers, Tyler Fire’s Battalion 1, Fire Marshal 7 and Engine 7, as well as UT Health EMS, responded to the report of a bomb threat at Good Shepherd School.
Dispatchers received a message, through the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, that suggested an explosive device was on the grounds of the school, located at 2525 Old Jacksonville Hwy. in Tyler.
The Tyler Fire Department came out to the scene and notified the school to evacuate. Meanwhile, Tyler police worked to secure a perimeter around the property as students and staff evacuated the school.
“When we arrived, the school had already started to evacuate,” said Brandon Davis, communications officer for the Tyler Fire Department. “And we — along with the police department — looked around the school property for any devices.”
Tyler ISD sent buses to Good Shepherd to assist in transporting students to Tyler ISD’s Career & Technology School located on Earl Campbell Parkway. Tyler ISD Police Department also helped with the reunification of students and parents.
Once all students and staff were safely off the property, Tyler police and fire personnel cleared the school and the building under construction.
No explosive devices were found, and an all-clear was given just after noon.
Davis said the incident is under investigation.
“Whether it’s a prank or not, we take these kinds of situations very seriously,” Davis said. “And there will be criminal charges involved.”
