TVCC, Blinn drop games at NJCAA

Trinity Valley and Blinn dropped games on Wednesday in the NJCAA Women’s Division I National Basketball Tournament in Casper, Wyoming.

No. 19 Blinn lost its first-round contest to No. 14 Casper, 72-61, while No. 9 TVCC fell to No. 8 New Mexico JC, 74-61, in a second-round game.

The games were held at the Ford Wyoming Center and both Blinn and TVCC were eliminated from the tourney.

The Thunderbirds used a big second quarter to take a 43-28 halftime lead.



Lydie Mwamba led the Lady Cardinals with 22 points, followed by Kennedi Johnson with 10 points.

TVCC (26-7) hit on 4 of 22 3-point attempts (Mwamba, 2; Emani Jenkins, 1; April Edwards, 1) and 7 of 14 from the free throw line.

Pania Davis led NMJC with 20 points, followed by Cacia Antonio adding 18 points and 14 rebounds.

The Thunderbirds (27-6) connected on 5 of 18 from 3-point (Nuria Estrade, 3; Filipa Calisto, 1; Amyah Sutton, 1) and 9 of 14 from the free throw line.

CASPER 72, BLINN 61

Blinn also played the team of Thunderbirds and fell behind 39-21 at halftime.

Chelsy Singleton and Tocarra Johnson led the Lady Bucs with 17 points apiece.

Blinn (24-10) made 6 of 33 3-pointers (Singleton, 3; Jonesha Neal, 1; Tianna Mathis, 1; Elizabeth Walton, 1) and 11 of 16 from the free throw line.

Logann Alvar led the hometown team with 24 points.

Casper (29-5) hit on 3 of 20 3-pointers (Alvar, 2; Saioa San Francisco, 1) and 13 of 21 at the free throw line.
