Van wins Rose City Softball Classic

Van won the 2024 Peltier Chevrolet Rose City Softball Classic.
The Lady Vandals defeated New Diana (6-2) and Jacksonville (9-6) on Friday. In Saturday’s semifinals, Van took a 1-0 win over Troup before defeating Hughes Springs (5-0) in the championship.

Against Troup, Maddy Medcalf, Ava Hopson and Lanna Tschirhart all had a hit.
Tatum Horton allowed no runs on three hits with six strikeouts and a walks in eight innings.
Troup’s Taylor Gillispie, the tournament MVP, struck out 12 and allowed three hits.
Against Hughes Springs, Mahayla McKinney had a double and drove in two runs. Emerson Swoape, Medcalf, Hopson and Tschirhart all had a hit.
Potter allowed no runs on two hits with six strikeouts and a walk in five innings.
Hughes Springs placed second, defeating Tyler Legacy 5-0 on Saturday before falling to Van in the championship.

Sara Eckert had the two hits for Legacy.
Kylee Tapia allowed two runs — one earned — on three hits with three strikeouts in three innings. Aubrie Kirk allowed three unearned runs on four hits with two strikeouts in three innings.
Legacy bounced back from its loss to Hughes Springs with an 8-2 win over Troup in the third-place game.
Tapia and Reese Neely both homered. Neely also had a single and two RBIs. Alayla Underwood had a triple and single. Hadison Maxey had two hits, and Eckert added a hit.
Kirk allowed one run on five hits with one strikeout in three innings. Tapia allowed one unearned run on two hits with a strikeout and two walks in three innings.
Taylor Gillispie had three hits with a double and RBI for Troup.
Carli Hayes allowed six runs — four earned — on eight hits with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Gillispie allowed two runs on two hits with one strikeout in one-third of an inning.
On Friday, Legacy defeated North Lamar (7-1).
Eckert homered, had a double and drove in to runs. Neely was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Tapia had a triple. ReNaa had two hits.
Tapia allowed one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks in five innings.
Legacy (8-8) will open District 10-6A play Tuesday at Mesquite.
Longview defeated North Lamar (13-2) in the Gold Bracket consolation final.
Other scores on Saturday were Jacksonville 8, Mabank 5; New Diana 10, Lindale 8; Malakoff 16, Chapel Hill 1; Longview 7, Malakoff 6; North Lamar 13, Chapel Hill 2; Carthage 9, Tatum 4; Brownsboro 9, Tatum 4; and Mineola 10, Killeen 0.
Whitehouse goes 3-1-1 in Mesquite
Whitehouse picked up three wins in the Mesquite Tournament.
The Ladycats defeated Garland (12-2) and tied with Mesquite Horn (3-3) on Thursday. On Friday, Whitehouse defeated Mesquite Poteet (5-2) and lost to Aledo (3-2).
Whitehouse closed the weekend with a 14-1 win over Arlington on Saturday.
Against Arlington, Grace Ann McDonald had a home run, a double, a single and five RBIs. Analee Becerra had a triple and double. Kyndal Morris, Elli Green, Larkin Jones and Kate Jones all had a double.
McDonald allowed no runs on one hit with one strikeout in one inning. Paige Goodell allowed one unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts and a walk in two innings.
Whitehouse hit nine home runs in the tournament.
Whitehouse will face Longview in the District 15-5A opener on Tuesday in Longview.
Edgewood wins two
Gracie Cates had a home run, a triple and two RBIs as Edgewood won 8-1 over Port Isabel.
Trinity Hale had a triple. Emma Robertson and Addie Kay each had two hits.
Robertson allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts in four innings.
Edgewood also defeated Nixon-Smiley 10-6.
Cates had a home run, a single and two RBIs. Hale had a double and three RBIs. Sydney Reed had a double.
Addy Fincher allowed six runs — five earned — on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks in four innings.
Bullard splits games
Bullard defeated Rogers 10-1 and lost 6-1 to Salado on Saturday.
Kirstin Malone had two doubles against Rogers. Brooklyn Brannen, Denim Boles and Zaylee Zahirniak all had a double. Boles added a single and two RBIs, and Brannen had three RBIs.
Brannen allowed one run on two hits with five strikeouts and a walk in six innings.
Against Salado, Brannen homered.
Anistyn Foster allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk in five innings.
Brannen allowed four runs on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk in one inning.
Hawkins splits pair
Hawkins lost to Kerens 5-2 and defeated Eustace 3-1 on Saturday.
Rylee Spivey threw a no-hitter for Kerens.
Kalyn Ellison allowed five runs — two earned — on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in 3.2 innings.
Taetum Smith had two hits against Eustace, and Ryli Williams had a double. Ellison allowed one unearned run on two hits with nine strikeouts in four innings.
