East Texans punch tickets to state powerlifting meet

ARP — Arp High School hosted three regional championships for the Texas High School Powerlifting Association on Thursday and Friday.

The Division 4 Region 3 meet was Thursday with Division 2 Region 3 and Division 3 Region 3 taking place Friday.



Henderson took the team title in Division 2 Region 3 with 35 points. Lindale (26) was second, and Bullard (24) was third.

The top two finishers in each weight class qualified for state with other totals also qualifying for state.

Chapel Hill’s Pablo Martinez-Cerda won the 275-pound class with a total of 1,630 pounds (640 squat, 460 bench, 520 deadlift). Paris’ Jeremiah Smith (1,560 total) was second. Jacksonville’s Raphael Foy (1,555 total) and Chapel Hill’s Dyllan Drummond (1,550 total) also qualified for state.

Bullard’s Neo Thomas won the 242-pound class with a total of 1,555 pounds (625 squat, 390 bench, 540 deadlift). Henderson’s Josh McAlister (1,515) total got second, and Chapel Hill’s Isaiah Collins (1,500 total) also qualified for state. Lindale’s Drew Ragland set a personal record with 525 on the bench and also had 705 on the squat, which would’ve left him needing just 330 on the deadlift to win, but he didn’t record an official deadlift.

Lindale’s Harrison Prater won the 198-pound class with a total of 1,435 pounds (525 squat, 430 bench, 480 deadlift). Bullard’s Cayden Royal (1,425 total) placed second. Sulphur Springs’ Blaine Allen (1,400 total) also qualified for state.

Brownsboro’s Ethan Ramsey won the 123-pound class with a total of 950 pounds (370 squat, 210 bench, 370) deadlift. Bullard’s Brayden Ramsey (935 total) placed second.

Henderson’s Kaleb Tate (1,540 total) was first in the 181-pound class, and Lindale’s Miles Miller (1,330 total) took second.

Athens’ Daniel Castaneda (1,320 total) won the 165-pound class, and Henderson’s Martin Camargo (1,235 total) got second.

Gilmer’s Atavian Ector (1,345 total) won the 148-pound class, and Lindale’s Lukas Harbour (1,180 total) placed second.

Sulphur Springs’ Cristobal Torres (985 total) won the 132-pound class, and Brownsboro’s Robert Crawford (985 total) placed second.

Sulphur Springs’ Logan Lowrance (905 total) won the 114-pound class, and Brownsboro’s Michael Arvizo (880 total) place second.

Kaufman’s Alonzo Tijerna (1,730 total) took first in the superheavyweight class and Henderson’s John Bateman (1,635 total) placed second.

Henderson’s Brock Johnson (1,835 total) was first in the 308-pound class, and Athens’ Vic Blancas (1,540 total) was second.

In Division 3 Region 3, Sabine (23 points) took first place. Pollok Central (22) was second, and Mount Vernon (19) was third.

Arp’s Bryce Everett punched his ticket to state in the super heavyweight class with a total of 1,650 pounds (615 squat, 505 bench, 530 deadlift). Huntington’s Nick Smith (1,555 total) placed second.

Winona’s Juan Ordorica (1,050 total) won the 132-pound class, and Arp’s Zach Garrett (1,025 total) placed second.

Mineola’s Medellin Moses (1,430 total) won the 181-pound class, and Quitman’s Devin Robertson (1,370 total) placed second. Queen City’s Delvon Federick (1,355 total) and Elkhart’s Austin Pittman (1,350 total) also qualified for state.

Malakoff’s Jalen Smith (1,475 total) won the 198-pound class, and Trinity’s Cole Odom (1,465 total) placed second. Sabine’s Tristan Peterson (1,400 total) also qualified for state.

Jefferson’s Bryce Clark (1,785 total) won the 308-pound class, and Huntington’s Solomon Reid (1,525 total) placed second.

Daingerfield’s Marlon Hayes (1,650 total) won the 275-pound class), and Grand Saline’s Alex Salazar (1,510 total) placed second.

DeKalb’s Duece Ingram (1,590 total) won the 242-pound class, and Sabine’s Steven Calico (1,510 total) placed second. Sabine’s Dawson Brooks (1,500 total) also qualified for state.

Mount Vernon’s Caiden Moore (1,725 total) won the 220-pound class, Gabe Lewis (1,450 total) placed second. Sabine’s Sam Black (1,450 total) also qualified for state.

Pollok Central’s Adam Dean (1,430 total) won the 165-pound class, and Sabine’s Joe Ray (1,410 total) placed second.

Mount Vernon’s Krisztian Dennis (1,160 total) won the 148-pound class, and Malakoff’s Davion Johnson (1,160 total) placed second.

Quitman’s Jayden Markham (1,155 total) won the 123-pound class, and Quitman’s Carlos Flores (1,000 total) placed second. Elkhart’s TJ Calhoun (1,010 total) and Mount Vernon’s Jace Fountain (1,000 total) also qualified for state.

Pollok Central’s Caleb Norton (790 total) won the 114-pound class, and Pollok Central’s Jaxon Black (725 total) placed second.

Garrison (55 points) won the Division 4 Region 3 meet on Thursday.
