More than 60 Tyler streets to receive new asphalt this summer

More than 60 Tyler streets are set to receive a new asphalt overlay this summer.
On Tuesday, the city of Tyler’s Half Cent Sales Tax Board of Directors officially approved a contract with Reynolds and Kay, LTD. for just less than $2.9 million worth of street overlays.
Most of the neighborhood roads are inside the loop, but there are a few outside of it.
The roads were selected based on their pavement condition index, a rating that ranges from zero to 100, with 100 being a newly repaved road.
City Engineer Carter Delleney said the city rated its roads in 2012 with the help of the private company Fugro. They surveyed each road and categorized them, assigning the number.
For the past four years, the city has delegated a portion of the half-cent sales tax to upgrade the ones on the bottom of the list.
James Fair Parkway, or County Road 461, is the lowest on the repair list, with a rating of 30, while Chad Street has the highest rating at 92.
The work will cover between 30 and 35 single lane miles of road.
Work will begin in April and be completed by the end of summer, and the contractor will have discretion on what order the roads are repaired.
