(KYTX) — For over 66 years, Johnny Cace’s in Longview has been a staple in the community. The restaurant was immortalized with a Texas historical marker over the weekend, and for owner Cathy Cace, it was a special moment in time.

“Today was remarkable having lost my husband Gerard two and half years ago I know he’s here with us looking down and really excited to take place.”

People from all over east Texas came to see the unveiling of the markers. For many, like Natalie Rabicoff, the restaurant is deeply rooted in the community.

“This was a landmark for bus tours and people, it was amazing the amount of bus tours that were going to the boats in Shreveport and were stopping here I mean phenomenal, what this place means to people.”

Earlier this year it was announced that Johnny Cace’s would be closing it’s doors, but for Cace, the marker will serve as a testament to its enduring spirit.

“Knowing that we will have this permanent reminder here on the property, it’s just going to be so nice to be able to drive by and still see a remembrance of us having been here.”

With the legacy of Johnny Cace’s fully in tact, the city of Longview will continue to have a pillar in the community.
