- Entertainers Penn & Teller are bringing their brand of comedic magic to the Rose City when they perform at the Cowan Center on April 17.
With equal parts comedy and mind-boggling “magic,” Penn & Teller has been delighting audiences for 40 years.
The duo known for pulling off the seemingly impossible will bring its bag of razzle dazzle tricks and illusions to The University of Texas at Tyler’s Cowan Center for show at 7:30 p.m. on April 17.

Tickets range from $42 to $72 and be purchased at the venue’s box office or through its website, cowancenter.org.
In an interview posted last year on the website pennlive.com, Penn Jillette spoke about what the audience can expect when they see one of their shows.
“One of the reasons we’re doing so well in Vegas is that no matter how much you like what we do electronically (on television), you’ve never seen what we do live. People claim to do magic shows on TV, and they’re lying. First of all, even if you believe they’re not using camera tricks and plants, which they all are, it’s still not the same. …
“There are no electronic representations in magic. It is completely undocumented. And that’s because you can’t experience time and space except in a live theater. The rules of physics and time work just like you’ve been learning ever since you were in a crib. You know mass, you know time, you know if you drop a cup of coffee exactly how long it should take before that … hits the ground. You know all of that stuff.
“When you see our show live you will be able to see us change those things — apparently, because it’s all tricks — and that’s something you can’t get somewhere else. If you’re seeing one live show, if you only see one live show a year, you should go and see something that you can only see live.”
Penn & Jillette have been performing together since the late 1970s and are famous for their long-running show in Las Vegas and their many appearances on television in guest appearances and hosts of their own specials and series. They currently appear on the cable shows “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” and “Wizard Wars.” Their 12-year run at The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino is one of the longest runs of a headlining-act in Las Vegas history. They have been named Magicians of the Year 12 times in Las Vegas.
