Baseball Notebook: Legacy’s Garner, Mineola’s Redding, Gorman’s Kimec take weekly honors

Tyler Legacy’s Simeon Garner, Mineola’s Calem Redding and Bishop Gorman’s Matthias Kimec have earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Baseball Player of the Week honors for games played Feb. 24-March 1.

Garner and Redding were selected as the Hitters of the Week, and Kimec was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week.



Garner went 5-for-11 (.455) in the Clear Creek Tournament with two home runs, two doubles, seven RBIs and three runs scored.

Redding was 10-for-12 (.833) with two home runs, five triples, two walks (one intentional), one hit by pitch, nine RBIs and seven runs.

Kimec threw a no-hitter against Fruitvale and then threw a two-hitter against Big Sandy. He allowed one earned run during the week with eight strikeouts.

PITCHING

Bullard’s Jackson Holt allowed no runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in seven innings against Anahuac.

Van senior Grady Baetz allowed no runs on three hits with two strikeouts in six innings to earn a win.

Brownsboro junior Dalton Taylor allowed four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 5.2 innings. Junior Bobby Dobbs allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks in five innings.

Arp senior Caden Cliborn allowed one run on one hit with four strikeouts and two walks in four innings.

Grand Saline senior Landon Mayne threw a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in five innings. Freshamn Ryder Key allowed one run on six hits with three strikeouts in seven innings, picking up the win.

LaPoynor sophomore Kaden McKinley allowed no runs on three hits with 12 strikeouts in seven innings.

Cayuga junior Gus Wilfong allowed one run on three hits with 14 strikeouts in seven innings in a 5-1 win over Elkhart.

HITTING

Bullard junior third baseman Ty Rigsby went 10-for-19 (.526) with three triples, four doubles, seven RBIs, seven runs and three stolen bases against Henderson, Whitehouse, Athens, Mount Pleasant, Anahuac and Spring Hill.

Van senior Asher Hawkins went 9-for-18 (.500) with three doubles, a triple, six RBIs, 12 runs, four walks and seven stolen bases.

Brook Hill junior third baseman Gabe Tatum went 7-for-14 (.500) with seven RBIs and three runs in the Live Oak Tournament.

Bishop Gorman’s Pierce Duke hit .537 with three RBIs and five runs scored.

Brownsboro junior Danton Wright went 4-for-7 (.571) with a double, a triple, seven walks, two RBIs and four runs. Senior Lincoln Burton went 5-for-12 with a walk, an RBI and four runs.

Canton senior Nathan Parker went 7-for-13 (.538) with a home run, four doubles, five RBIs, eight runs, two stolen bases and three walks.

Arp freshman leadoff hitter Adan Ponce went 5-for-8 (.625) with a double, a triple, two RBIs, three runs, a walk and two stolen bases.

Grand Saline’s Landon Mayne went 10-for-14 (.714) with a home run, a triple, three doubles, eight RBIs, seven runs and a stolen base. Senior Carson Brown went 6-for-14 (.429) with a home run, nine RBIs, five doubles and three runs.

Overton senior Jayden Edwards went 6-for-9 (.667) with a home run, a double, six RBIs, four runs, a walk and two stolen bases.

LaPoynor senior outfielder Colt Rogers hit .588 with eight RBIs, 10 runs and 13 stolen bases.

Alto senior Bradyn Westbrook went 6-for-8 (.750) with three doubles, four RBIs, five runs, a stolen bases and six walks.
