Softball Notebook: Grand Saline’s Alissa Fugate, Arp’s Ja’Neciya Potts, Troup’s Taylor Gillispie take weekly honors

Grand Saline’s Alissa Fugate, Arp’s Ja’Neciya Potts and Troup’s Taylor Gillispie have earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Softball Player of the Week honors for games played March 4-9.

Potts and Fugate are the Hitters of the Week, and Gillispie is the Pitcher of the Week.

Potts went 7-for-7 (1.000) with a double, four RBIs, six runs, two walks and 3-for-3 on stolen bases.

Fugate went 5-for-5 (1.000) with two triples, a double, six RBIs, three runs, a walk and a stolen bases.

Gillispie struck out 35 batters, going 1-1, allowing three runs on four hits with 10 walks in 13.2 innings.



In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):

PITCHING

Bullard’s Anistyn Foster struck out 13 batters in eight innings with a 2.62 ERA.

Mineola’s Jadelyn Marshall picked up two wins, allowing three runs on nine hits with 14 strikeouts and nine walks with a 2.33 ERA.

Whitehouse’s Elli Green struck out five batters, allowed one hit and had a .071 batting average against.

HITTING

Tyler Legacy’s Re’Naa Hicks went 3-for-4 (.750) with four runs and four stolen bases. Reese Neely went 3-for-4 (.750) with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs. Kylee Tapia went 2-for-3 (.667) with a grand slam, six RBIs and three runs.

Bullard’s Dakota Payne hit .500 with two singles and a run scored against Canton and Melissa.

Grand Saline sophomore Kolbi Phillips hit .667 with two singles, a double, two runs, two walks and a sacrifice bunt.

Mineola’s Kaitlyn McMahon went 4-for-8 (.500) with a double, six runs and two walks. Caroline Castleberry went 3-for-7 (.429) with five RBIs, two runs and two walks.

Troup’s Bailey Blanton went 4-for-7 (.571) with a home run, two doubles, four RBIs, two runs, a walk and two stolen bases. Taylor Gillispie went 4-for-7 (.571) with a triple, two RBIs, four runs and two stolen bases. Shiloh Sluder went 4-for-7 (.571) with four doubles, two RBIs, four runs and a stolen bases. MaKayla Spencer went 3-for-6 (.500) with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs.

Whitehouse’s Kate Jones hit .714 with five hits, one RBI, four runs, a walk and three stolen bases, giving her 100 stolen bases for her career.

East Texas teams ranked in the Texas Girls Coaches Association rankings are Van (18-2) No. 10 and Henderson (12-6) No. 25 in 4A; DeKalb (9-1) No. 5, Hooks (15-3-1) No. 11, Rains (15-5-1) No. 17, Diboll (12-4-1) No. 19 and White Oak (14-5) No. 25 in 3A; and Como-Pickton (15-2) No. 6, Beckville (15-3-2) No. 8, Brookeland (7-1) No. 13, Lovelady (8-2-1) No. 17, Groveton (13-4-1) No. 19, Kerens (16-5) No. 20, and Alto (10-7-1) No. 23 in 2A/1A.
