TPWD releases hunting season dates for 2015-16

Texas hunters can finally get their calendars out and mark season dates in permanent marker.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department last week released 2015-16 hunting seasons, and sticking with tradition everything starts Sept. 1 with the opening of dove season in the North and Central zones.

The early teal-only season, which now includes Canada geese as well, runs Sept. 12-27, followed by the opening of the South Texas dove season Sept. 18.
Deer hunters get their first shot with the archery season and hunting under the Managed Lands Deer Permit program Oct. 3-Nov. 6. The regular season opens statewide Nov. 7 with the North Zone closing Jan. 3 and the South Zone closing Jan. 17.
Mule deer archery season runs simultaneously with the white-tailed deer archery season. The general season opens Nov. 21 throughout the Panhandle Nov. 21 and Nov. 27 in the Trans Pecos region.
The most anticipated quail season in more than a decade runs Oct. 31-Feb. 28 while the Panhandle pheasant season will run Dec. 5-Jan. 3.
Squirrel hunters in East Texas will take to the woods Oct. 1-Feb. 28 for the winter season and May 1-31 for the spring season.
Hunting and fishing licenses for 2015-16 will go on sale statewide Aug. 15.
