Copeland throws 7 TDs as Apaches outlast Navarro, 69-55

Sederian Copeland threw seven touchdown passes and added another on the ground as No.11 Tyler Junior College scored a wild 69-55 victory over Navarro College on Thursday night at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
Copeland had a total offensive output of 574 yards on Earl Campbell Field. He also had a 45-yard TD run as the Apaches (7-1) clinched a home playoff berth in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. A win Oct. 24 at Kilgore College would claim the regular season title and home field advantage throughout the postseason. Kickoff is 3 p.m. next week.
The Apaches are 4-1 in league and tied with Trinity Valley. Navarro fell to 5-3 and 3-2.
TJC fell behind 21-7 but scored 32 straight points in the latter portion of the second quarter and the first part of the third quarter.
Copeland, who has been national player of the week twice this season, hit on 20 of 32 pass attempts for 484 yards. He had TD passes of 16 to CJ Thomas, 69 and 66 to Savon Rollison, 68 and 57 to Ryan Parker, 45 to Nathan Crouch and 33 to John Murray.
Copeland rushed for 90 yards on 14 carries.
Ken Burks rushed for 101 yards and a TD on 20 attempts.
Parker had eight catches for 187 yards, while Rollison had five for 167. Nathan Crouch had five receptions for 68 yards.
Navarro QB Devlin Isadore threw for 440 yards and five touchdowns.
There was also some defense in the game as Somari Wright had four sacks, while Randy Spikes recovered a fumble and Solomon McGinty had an interception.
SMOKE SIGNALS: The nationally ranked TJC soccer teams play host to Paris Junior College on Friday at Pat Hartley Field. The No. 2-ranked Apache Ladies play at 5 p.m., followed by the defending national champion men at 7 p.m.
