The group aims to improve working conditions and safety of law enforcement officers through education, legislation, information, community involvement and employee representation, according to the national chapter’s website.
“Tyler is my home,” the local Fraternal Order president Chuck Boyce said. “Tyler is my city. It’s my Mayberry. I want to know everyone on every corner, and I want them to know me. A lot of our officers are that way, and I want to get out there to let people know we are here, and we are here to be a part of this community.”
The Tyler Fraternal order is selling two T-shirts. The group Texan Up designed the first shirt. The front of the shirt reads, “Tyler Police Department” and features a Texas graphic with a star inside for the “E” in Tyler. The back says, “I’ve got your six,” which means, “I’ve got your back” in terms of using a clock to explain direction.
Those shirts are $22. Half of the proceeds of their sale will go to the local fraternal order, and the other half goes back to Texan Up. The shirts come in blue, navy and black.
An employee within the Tyler Police Department designed the second shirt. It features the word “Love.” The shirt features a heart for the “O” in Love, and inside is an American flag with a blue line to represent, “The Thin Blue Line,” a term commonly used to describe the role of police officers in society.
Those shirts are $15, and 100 percent of the proceeds benefit the Tyler Fraternal Order of Police. They are only available in blue.

Adult and children’s sizes are available in both styles.
The cutoff date to order shirts is Oct. 20. All orders or inquiries should be directed to Boyce at cboyce@tylertexas.com.
The funds will benefit the local chapter’s initiatives, which include the Blue Santa Christmas program for children in the foster care system and for purchasing equipment and supplies for local police departments.
