Patriot women roll to win

Makenzie May had a game-high 22 points and the No. 16 UT Tyler Patriots opened their home season with a 94-50 win over Rust College on Tuesday at the Herrington Patriot Center.

Cami Davis (13), Shuntay Raglin (12) and Michelle Obach (11) were all in double figures scoring as the UT Tyler women’s basketball team improved to 3-0.



Jasmine Golden led the Bearcats with 19 points, while Demetrius Bradshaw added 16.

It was the season opener for Rust, which is located Holly Springs, Mississippi.

The Patriots outscored the Bearcats 21-4 in the second quarter to break the game open.

Alex Kochner helped the Patriots control the boards with 14 rebounds. D’Onna Matthew added seven boards.

Bradshaw led the Bearcats with nine rebounds.

May added five assists for the Patriots with Obach adding three assists and four steals. Tameal Jones, the former John Tyler standout, had three steals and 7 points.

The Patriots open American Southwest Conference play on Dec. 3 against Howard Payne at the Herrington Patriot Center. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
