Rebels run past Apaches

BAYTOWN – Lee College used a second-half surge to pull away from Tyler Junior College and score an 87-60 Region XIV Conference basketball win on Tuesday.
TJC lost its second-straight game to fall to 6-2 overall and 0-2 in Region XIV.
The Rebels improve to 7-1 and 2-0.
Sophomores Branden Jenkins of Maywood, Illinois (18 points), Duop Reath of Mirrabooka, Australia (17) and Tim Coleman of Cincinnati (16) led the way for Lee. The trio combined for 33 of their points in the second half.
TJC was within 32-28 at halftime, but the Rebels outscored the Apaches 55-32 in the second half.
Jaqwan McCauley, a freshman guard from Greensboro, North Carolina, led the Apaches with 15 points. Kwinton Hinson (freshman guard, Fairmount, North Carolina) and TJ Thomas (sophomore forward, Atlanta, Georgia) each had 10 points.
Ronnie Stacy, TJC’s sophomore guard from Alexander City, Alabama, had nine points.
The Apaches’ next game is Sunday against Northwestern State JV at Wagstaff Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. TJC is also home on Dec. 2 against Coastal Bend. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
