WACO, Texas (AP) — Small rust spots have been discovered on the columns on top of the newly-renovated McLennan County Courthouse dome, but officials say the problem is minimal and is covered under warranty.
It’s been less than two years since a $2.6 million renovation was done on the roof of the courthouse in Waco. Billy Bettge, with the county’s maintenance and buildings department, told the Waco Tribune-Herald that the rust can be seen on part of the dome that was renovated.
He says a coating was administered to the roof, so it shouldn’t be rusting.
County attorney Dustin Chapman says the coating manufacturer is set to arrive this week to evaluate what happened.
The county’s maintenance and buildings crew discovered the rust while clearing leaves off the top of the 112-year-old courthouse.
